Johnny Reeves Johnny Reeves is a clergyman who preaches hate. Johnny wears glasses and dresses nicely. He has dark hair.
Johnny Reeves is a racist. He doesn't like African- American people at all. That's why Johnny is part of the Ku Klux Klan. Johnny is also very uncaring. He doesn't seem to care that he preaches hate. Johnny could also be described as destructive. He lights the pine tree cross on fire with the Klan. Johnny has his own reasons to do what he does in the book. He hates African-American people so he joins the Ku Klux Klan. Two of the more mysterious things he does, however, involve his death. Nobody knows for sure why, but Johnny jumps off a bridge, attempting to commit suicide. It's anyone's guess as to why he does this, but most people would say it's because he fired the gun through Sara Chickering's keyhole and shot Ira Hirsh. The other mysterious thing Johnny Reeves does is haunt Merlin Van Tornhout. Merlin claims to have seen Johnny everywhere he went. I think Johnny Reeves did this so Merlin would come back to town, and prove himself innocent. "we cast those who are not like us into the arms of satan." -Johnny Reeves |
Johnny's Story
Johnny Reeves is a preacher in a small town in Vermont. He is a racist, and makes it known by preaching against African-Americans. Johnny joins the Ku Klux Klan when they enter his town. He continues to tell about how the Klan is good, and performing actions for the Klan. When Ira Hirsh is shot, all evidence leads towards Merlin Van Tornhout firing the gun, but when Johnny Reeves mysteriously jumps off of a bridge into a river, things start to point towards him shooting Ira for the Klan. Merlin leaves town and claims to see Johnny, even after Johnny is "dead", following him around.
